TEONA STRUGAR MITEVSKA
Born in North Macedonia, director Teona Strugar Mitevska worked as an actress from a young age, pursued painting and graphic design professionally, and studied film at the Tisch School of Arts in New York. She directed her first short film titled «Veta» in 2001 and has since directed several films, including «How I Killed a Saint» (2004), «I am from Titov Veles» (2007), «The Woman Who Brushed Off Her Tears» (2012), «Teresa and I» (2013), «When the Day Had No Name» (2017), and «God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya» (2019). The latter premiered in the competition section of the Berlin Film Festival in 2019, where it won the Ecumenical Prize and the German Guild Film Prize. The film has received over 30 international awards, including the 2019 LUX Prize from the European Parliament, and has been distributed in more than 40 regions worldwide. In 2018, the Ministry of Culture of France awarded her the Knight of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.
