IASONAS WASTHOR
Iasonas Wasthor was born in Athens in 1996 and grew up in a family of musicians. He began playing drums at the age of 12 and a few years later studied under Spyros Panagiotopoulos. In 2015, he won a scholarship to S.U.N.Y. Purchase College in New York, where he studied under legends of the international jazz scene such as John Riley, Carl Allen, Kenny Washington, Joe Farnsworth, and Matt Wilson. In 2017, among many participants, he won the scholarship of the legendary jazz saxophonist James Moody and continued his studies at the graduate level, while also teaching young students through the Gamechanger program in Wetchester, New York.
He has performed at iconic jazz venues in New York, such as Birdland Jazz Club, Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. He is the first Greek musician to be accepted with a full scholarship to the Jazz Masters Program at Juilliard School, under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, from which he graduated in 2023. Iasonas Wasthor is a member of Giorgos Kontrafouris's new piano trio.
