DIMITRIS KALANTZIS

Dimitris Kalantzis was born in Athens. He studied piano and music theory at the Athens Conservatory and the Athenian Conservatory, where he graduated in piano and fugue with summa cum laude. In 1990 he began his studies at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music -Jazz Department in Budapest, where he graduated in 1994 with distinction. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Musical Interpretation from the Ionian University. From 2004 to 2010, he taught at the Ionian University in the Musical Studies Department, while since 2013 he is the director of the Jazz School of the Athens Conservatory. He has held concerts at the Herodium, at Athens Music Hall, at the Pallas Theatre, at the Sani Festival, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, at the Poisson Rouge in New York, at Gazarte, and Half Note. His personal discography includes “Mano’s” a jazz tribute to Manos Hadjidakis, 2011 (a platinum record), “modes & moods” music by Mikis Theodorakis 2013, “Santa’s secret dance” 2014 and “Yesterday Night – jazz take on the Greek music of yesterday” 2016. He has worked with important musicians on the Greek and international jazz scene, such as Kevin Mahogany, Andy Sheppard, Alex Foster, Ralph Peterson, Rex Richardson, Dennis Baptiste, Abram Wilson, Marcelo Peliteri, Ron Afif, Tony Remy, Amik Guerra and many more.
