Note by Mikis Theodorakis
«It was one of the most beautiful and moving moments of my life when I heard the jazz rendition of my songs. Because from a very young age, I had the privilege of listening daily to jazz records from the classic period on the rare gramophone of that time (the '20s). A music that marked me and that I would have loved to explore more deeply. However, the circumstances at that time (foreign occupation) did not allow me to do so. Thus, jazz has remained within me as a great unfulfilled desire. For this reason, I welcome Dimitris Kalantzis' initiative to dress my songs in jazz sounds, and moreover, in such a high level of artistic quality. I am delighted because I see that in our country, there are such talented musicians with technical excellence and creative imagination. After all, this genre of music is extremely demanding, as it is mainly based on improvisation, a continuous vigilance of the performer's intellectual and mental world. In a few words, I am very happy for this union of my music with the mythical world of jazz, and for this, I warmly thank the musicians and above all, the inspired arranger Dimitris Kalantzis, as well as the excellent conductor and friend Miltos Logiadis, and I wish them every success.»
